MOVIES OPENING: NOVEMBER 6

Being Heumann — Rated R
This film is opening in select theaters this week and then streaming on Apple TV starting on November 13. Being Heumann is directed by Siân Heder, who won an Oscar for CODA, and stars Ruth Madeley, Mark Ruffalo, and Dylan O’Brien. It’s based on a true story and follows disability rights activist Judy Heumann as she leads a historic 28-day occupation of a federal building in San Francisco in 1977, demanding equal rights and accessibility protections.

Club Kid — Rated R
This A24 film opens in select theaters, and it follows a hard-partying New York City nightclub promoter who discovers he has a ten-year-old son he never knew about. Suddenly being a dad forces him to rethink his carefree lifestyle and what it means to be a dad.

Drummer Boy — Rated PG-13
This family friendly film from Angel Studios is releasing nationwide throughout the US. Drummer Boy is a historical drama set during the American Revolution and follows a young man who is his local regiment’s drummer boy, which creates family tension that could tear them apart on the eve of war with England.

Godzilla Minus Zero — Rated R
Watch out guys! Godzilla is back in theaters with Godzilla Minus Zero, from director Takashi Yamazaki, who brought us the Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One. Everyone who saw the first film has been waiting for this one, which takes place two years after Godzilla destroyed postwar Japan. The country has started rebuilding itself and trying to restore some peace and normalcy in life only to find a new threat has emerged and is placing Japan’s recovery and survival in jeopardy.

Jimmy — Rated PG-13
Jimmy stars KJ Apa as the legendary actor and World War II hero Jimmy Stewart. The story follows Stewart’s transition from Hollywood star to bomber pilot during the war and the difficulties of returning to civilian life when so many of his men and friends didn’t make it. I’ve got a review and special interview with the director of the film, Aaron Burns. So be sure to look for that video because it will make you think differently about the holiday classic It’s a Wonderful Life. This is my pick of the week!

Mouse — Rated R
Opening in select theaters, Mouse stars Sophie Okonedo, Iman Vellani, and David Hyde Pierce. Set in 2002, the film follows two best friends approaching their senior year of high school when tragedy turns their lives upside down. Minnie ends up developing an unexpected bond with her friend’s mom while struggling to come to terms with grief and a complicated home life.

Possible Love — Rating Not Yet Available
Arriving on Netflix after a limited theatrical opening in October, Possible Love marks the return of acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Lee Chang-dong with this new drama that follows two married couples whose lives become entangled. This is an interesting choice because it won the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Ramayana: Rise of a Legend — Rated PG-13
Releasing globally in theaters, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend is an ambitious new Indian fantasy epic by director Nitesh Tiwari. It stars Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi. It’s based on the ancient Indian story that follows Prince Rama and Princess Sita as their marriage and subsequent exile set them on a journey that forces them to confront the ideas of love, duty, destiny while struggling against powerful mystical forces.

The Cat in the Hat — Rated PG
You just can’t keep a good cat down. Warner Bros. brings us a film that is threatening to turn me back into a child. The Cat in the Hat is a new animated adventure featuring Bill Hader as the voice of Dr. Seuss’s mischievous Cat as he enters the lives of two siblings who are forced to move to a new town. The Cat takes on the challenge of cheering them up, but his increasingly chaotic attempts to restore their happiness may end up costing him his magical hat.

Wild Horse Nine — Rated R
Searchlight Pictures brings us Wild Horse Nine, a new film written and directed by Martin McDonagh that stars Sam Rockwell, John Malkovich, and Steve Buscemi in this story of two CIA agents sent to Easter Island shortly before Chile’s 1973 military coup. Their mysterious assignment becomes complicated by troubled histories, paranoia and conspiracies, and an unexpected friendship with two female students. The marketing for this film doesn’t do it justice.

Bonus Early Holiday Pick!

A Dog’s Perfect Christmas — Rating Not Yet Available
Because I am a sucker for holiday films, I’m throwing in a bonus holiday pick with A Dog’s Perfect Christmas which is coming straight to Netflix. It stars Dennis Quaid, Mary Steenburgen, and Milo Ventimiglia, and it follows a family struggling through a difficult Christmas after their mother falls into a coma. Narrated by a wise basset hound, the story gives us a loyal family dog and a new corgi puppy who help to bring everyone together.

MOVIES OPENING: NOVEMBER 13

Allen — Rated TV-14
Arriving on Netflix, Allen is an Australian science-fiction comedy-drama about a man who reunites with an alien friend twenty years after their original encounter. What could possibly go wrong? Am I right? Well, what begins as an unexpected reunion gets dangerous fast when he discovers that his old friend’s return just might come with catastrophic consequences.

Avedon — Rated R
This one is also coming straight to Netflix. Avedon is a documentary directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard and explores the life and career of legendary photographer Richard Avedon. If you are unfamiliar with him, his portraits and fashion photography helped to shape American popular culture.

Dead of Night — Rating Not Yet Available
Opening in select theaters, Dead of Night is a new horror thriller starring Dermot Mulroney, Scott Grimes, and Jake Busey. When a series of gruesome murders terrorizes a small town, the local sheriff struggles to identify the killer, while his daughter launches her own investigation.

Ebenezer— Rated PG-13
Johnny Depp stars as Charles Dickens’ famous miser Ebenezer Scrooge in his namesake film Ebenezer, which also stars Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, and Daisy Ridley. This new adaptation follows Ebenezer as three supernatural visitors confront him with his past, present, and future. Yes, it all sounds very, very familiar. What new can Hollywood do with this film? Well, I think Johnny Depp was a good start! Here’s to hoping this is a Christmas winner. This is my pick of the week, if not the month!

Ghost Soldier — Rated PG-13
Directed by William Eubank and starring Jim Caviezel, Garret Dillahunt, and Shea Whigham, Ghost Soldier follows a reclusive former Special Forces soldier forced back into action after a powerful foreign corporation threatens his hometown. Armed with his military training, he wages a one-man campaign against the people trying to take control. Here’s some life advice for you, if you see Jim Caviezel coming for you… just run. If you have watched the series Person of Interest, you know why. Enough said.

Heartland — Rated R
Netflix’s production department is kicking into overdrive this month with the new streaming film Heartland, which stars Jessica Chastain as a former country music superstar. Emerging from seclusion after her niece disappears in Nashville, she goes deep into the darkest corners of the music industry, which also forces her to confront secrets from her own past.

How to Rob a Bank — Rated R
Given the state of our economy, I’m not so sure how well bank executives are going to receive this film. Directed by David Leitch, whose films include Bullet Train and The Fall Guy, How to Rob a Bank stars Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Pete Davidson, and John C. Reilly. The story follows a group of bank robbers who stream their increasingly daring heists online, turning crime into viral entertainment while authorities race to stop them. Just a side note for influencers, please don’t try this at home.

Orfeo — Rating Not Yet Available
Are you looking for an international film? I have one for you which is opening in select theaters this week. Orfeo is an Italian fantasy directed by Virgilio Villoresi and was inspired by the Greek myth of Orpheus. It follows a musician whose search for a mysterious missing woman takes him into a surreal underworld. The film combines live action, stop-motion animation, miniature sets, and handcrafted visual effects. You really should check out the trailer for this one because it gives you a real sense of the film.

Space Cadet — Rating Not Yet Available
Space Cadet is an animated science-fiction film directed by Kid Koala that opens in select theaters. It’s based on his graphic novel about a devoted robot who raises a little girl to become an astronaut and how they both have to learn to live on their own when she leaves Earth for her first solo mission. Just a heads up that this is largely a dialogue-free film.

Victorian Psycho — Rated R
Starring Maika Monroe, Jason Isaacs, and Thomasin McKenzie, Victorian Psycho is a gothic horror thriller set in 1858. It follows an eccentric young governess who arrives at a remote English manor just as members of the household begin disappearing. Things start to get slice and dicey as the family starts to suspect their new employee just might be hiding something monstrous.

Bonus Holiday Pick!

Okay, I am clearly blowing my 10 film weekly limit wide open this November, but when I heard about this new Peanuts special, there is no way I couldn’t include it as a bonus holiday pick. Fun fact, Charles Schulz is from my hometown area. So, thank you Apple TV for this one!

Snoopy Presents: 12 Days of Snoopy
So, the Peanuts gang is heading to Apple TV for the new animated special Snoopy Presents: 12 Days of Snoopy when Snoopy learns that he’s on Santa’s naughty list and he’s only got twelve days to prove he’s a good beagle.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
To spice things up, Apple is also making the classic A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving available to watch for free November 14 and 15, and if you have never seen either you are in for a treat. These were staples of my childhood.

MOVIES OPENING: NOVEMBER 20

Best Pancakes in the County — Rating Not Yet Available
Set for a dual release in theaters and streaming, Nicolas Cage and Ravi Patel star in this film about an ordinary small-town diner that becomes the setting for a deadly standoff involving corrupt federal agents, dangerous criminals, and a waitress hiding secrets of her own. As loyalties shift and violence erupts, everyone is looking for a way to survive the night. As an aside, my diner is called The Driftwood, and I totally want to take my regular morning crew to this movie.

Guarding Stars — Rating Not Yet Available
Here’s an unexpected holiday film starring Leighton Meester, Jared Padalecki, and Andie MacDowell. A professional bodyguard assigned to protect a Hollywood action star over Christmas finds herself navigating an unexpectedly romantic holiday assignment. While there’s nothing Supernatural about this film, I’m curious what Jared Padalecki is up to with this one.

I Play Rocky — Rated PG-13
Here’s a film about an unknown actor named Sylvester Stallone who had the audacity to not only write a screenplay about an underdog boxer, but also insisted on starring in the film. Meanwhile, Hollywood executives refuse to let him lead his own movie, and they literally have no idea that Stallone is Rocky Balboa and this is a guy who is not afraid to risk everything to bring his vision to the screen. This is the story of a star-maker, pure and simple. It’s also the 50th anniversary of the original Rocky film, which you should absolutely see. This is my pick of the week!

Josephine — Rated R
After eight-year-old Josephine witnesses a violent crime in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, her behavior begins to change as she struggles to process what she has seen. Her parents have to figure out how to navigate their own fear as well as hers while trying to help their daughter understand an increasingly frightening world. I haven’t seen this film, but beware of the R rating here. This is a movie about a little girl, but that doesn’t mean it’s for kids.

Madden — Rated R
Hey football fans, here’s a film that chronicles the remarkable life of legendary football coach John Madden, from his championship-winning years with the Oakland Raiders (Go Raiders!) to his career as a broadcaster and the creation of the enormously successful Madden NFL video game franchise, which I have never played.

Minotaur — Rating Not Yet Available
Here’s another international film based in Russia. A wealthy businessman suspects his wife of having an affair while authorities also pressure him to send some of his employees to fight in Ukraine. As his marriage and professional life unravel, his increasingly desperate attempts to regain control threaten to lead to violence. This movie is spoken in Russian with English subtitles.

Paper Tiger — Rated R
This crime thriller starring Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson, and Miles Teller is set in 1980s New York, and features a family man who is drawn into a questionable business venture by his brother, a former police officer. However, after their scheme involving Russian criminals spirals out of control, the danger threatens his marriage, children, and family’s future.

Perfect Liars — Rating Not Yet Available
Premiering globally on Prime Video, Perfect Liars is a new mystery thriller based on Alex Mírez’s popular Wattpad novel, which follows a young woman who infiltrates an elite university’s powerful social circle to find out why her brother died. Her search for answers is complicated by dangerous secrets, betrayal, and forbidden romance. This is a Spanish-language movie with English subtitles.

Steps — PG
Netflix’s animated fantasy comedy brings us the story for Cinderella, but from the perspective of her evil stepsisters who are tired of living in Cinderella’s shadow. Steps stars an all-star voice cast including, Amanda Seyfried, Bette Midler, Daniel Radcliffe, and Peter Dinklage. When Lilith steals the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand, she accidentally throws the kingdom into chaos. To save the fairy-tale world, she joins forces with Cinderella on an adventure.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping — Rated PG-13
This new addition to The Hunger Games series is set 24 years before the events of the original trilogy of books, and it follows a young Haymitch Abernathy (played by Joseph Zada) as he is selected to compete in the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, which is designed to reinforce the Capitol’s power. This all-star cast also includes Ralph Fiennes as President Snow along with Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Jesse Plemons, Mckenna Grace, Glenn Close, and Maya Hawke. What’s interesting about this story is that we know Haymitch survives, which means this is going to be a film about what he does to win.

MOVIES OPENING: NOVEMBER 27

14th — R
Opening in limited theaters, 14th is a new documentary from filmmaker Ava DuVernay, who previously explored the Thirteenth Amendment in her film 13th. This time, she examines the Fourteenth Amendment, exploring the history of citizenship, equal protection under the law, and the continuing debate over who belongs in America.

Bitter Christmas — Rated R
Expanding nationwide after a limited release, Bitter Christmas, from director Pedro Almodóvar, follows a filmmaker who tackles his own writer’s block with a fictional story inspired by his own life and the lives of the people around him. As his characters’ experiences begin to mirror reality, the film explores the relationship between storytelling, personal experience, and fiction. This is a Spanish-language drama with English subtitles.

Elsinore — Rated R
Released in select theaters on November 20th, Elsinore expands to additional theaters over Thanksgiving weekend. Based on a true story, Elsinore follows celebrated actor Ian Charleson as he confronts his own mortality while preparing for what will become his final stage performance at London’s National Theatre. In that last performance, his extraordinary portrayal of Hamlet becomes a source of inspiration and healing for those around him. And as I introduce this film, I can’t help but to think Patrick Stewart and wonder what his last performance will be like in the new Avengers film. I have a feeling that we’re all going to need to bring Kleenex to Elsinore and the Avengers.

Focker-in-Law — Rated PG-13
This film was a long time coming. Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro return for another round of family chaos in Focker-in-Law with Ariana Grande, Owen Wilson, and Skyler Gisondo. This time, Greg Focker becomes suspicious when his grown son brings home his girlfriend and announces plans to propose, which sets off a whole new generation of awkward family encounters.

Hershey — Rated PG
Starring Finn Wittrock and Alexandra Daddario, Hershey is a biographical drama from Angel Studios about Milton Hershey, the man who built one of America’s most recognizable companies through grit, determination, and chocolate. After overcoming repeated business failures, Hershey finds success, but his wife’s illness inspires an even more ambitious dream to use their fortune to help children in need.

Hexed — Rated PG
Disney’s new animated fantasy Hexed follows a rebellious teenage girl who discovers she has magical powers and is transported into a mysterious world of witches. In an unlikely mother-daughter duo, she’s forced to team up with her super cautious mom as they uncover family secrets that threaten the magical realm. The voice cast includes Hailee Steinfeld, Rashida Jones, Jodie Foster, and Walton Goggins.

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth — Rating Not Yet Available
Brad Pitt returns as Cliff Booth in this follow-up to Quentin Tarantino’s film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Tarantino also wrote the screenplay for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth with David Fincher taking over as director. Set in 1977 Los Angeles, Cliff has become a fixer who handles Hollywood’s dirty little secrets. If you want to see this one in theaters, don’t wait. It’s getting an exclusive two-week global IMAX theatrical release, but then it goes to streaming on Netflix in December. This is my pick of the week!

The Holy Boy — Unrated
Shudder brings in the Thanksgiving holiday horror with The Holy Boy, which is an Italian folk-horror film about a troubled teacher who moves to a secluded village famous for its unusually happy residents. He discovers that the villagers believe a teenage boy’s embrace removes their suffering, but their dependence on the boy conceals a disturbing secret. This film is in Italian with English subtitles.

The Hunchback, Soul of Paris — Rating Not Yet Available
The Hunchback, Soul of Paris, starring Vincent Cassel, premieres globally straight to Netflix. Set in Paris in 1830, this fictionalized historical drama imagines Quasimodo’s life as a disfigured stoneworker who becomes the target of medical experimentation while struggling to protect the woman he loves. The story is based on the bestselling novel by former Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, and follows a bullied middle school student whose uncle, a decorated Navy SEAL, helps him build confidence, resilience, and the courage to face his fears.

So that’s what’s in the Q for November 2026. Hopefully there are a few movies in there you didn’t know were coming, or maybe one you had completely forgotten about.

Okay, I’m curious!! What movies are you looking forward to this month?
